OF SUGAR TO CANBE GROWER MEMBERS DIRECTLY FROM SUGAR FACTORIES.

The Government
of Uttar Pradesh vide its order No. 1007 C.D./46-3-2000 dated 7th
March, 2001 has introduced the system of sugar distribution to cane
grower members directly from sugar factories. Any member of the mill
society can purchase one quintal of sugar during one sugar year directly
from mill for their own consumption, without contacting any agent
or whole sellers. This sugar is out of free sale quota allotted to
the mill. The rate charged from cane grower member is on the basis
of the current rates i.e. per quintal average rate of free sugar during
preceding month. The cane grower member has to pay the above ex-factory
free sale sugar price + excise duty which is presently Rs. 85/- per
quintal. Thus cane grower members save transport charges, commission
and margin of sugar selling agent, whole sellers and retailer shop-keepers
which he had to pay on purchases from markets. The delivery of sugar
is given against cash payment but it can be adjusted against cane
price due to cane grower member. Thousands of cane growers have availed
